May Devotional on Ephesians 3:16–17a ESV
“…that according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith…” (ESV)
There’s a kind of strength that doesn’t show up on the outside. It won’t necessarily change your schedule, your workload, or your circumstances overnight. But it changes you—deep down where fear, doubt, and weariness tend to settle. That’s the strength Paul is praying for here: not physical stamina or sheer willpower, but Spirit-given strength in your inner being.
Notice where this strength comes from—“according to the riches of His glory.” That’s not a limited supply. God isn’t rationing courage, peace, or endurance. He gives from an overflow. When you feel depleted, the source isn’t.
And what is this strength for? So that Christ may dwell in your heart through faith. This isn’t about Jesus making a quick visit—it’s about Him settling in, being at home, shaping your thoughts, your reactions, your desires. The stronger your inner life becomes through the Spirit, the more room Christ has to truly reign within you.
That means your daily struggles—stress, impatience, uncertainty—aren’t just things to “get through.” They’re places where God wants to deepen His work in you. He’s not only concerned with what you face, but who you are becoming in the middle of it.
Reflection:
Where do you feel weakest right now—mentally, emotionally, spiritually? Instead of trying to power through it, bring that place to God and ask for inner strength through His Spirit.
Prayer:
Lord, You know the places in me that feel worn down and stretched thin. Strengthen me from the inside out through Your Spirit. Let Christ truly dwell in my heart—shaping my thoughts, anchoring my faith, and guiding my life. Help me rely not on my own strength, but on the riches of Your glory. Amen.
