Fearless Faith

The Faith of Abraham Pt.1

Hebrews 11:8-10.

  1. PRINCIPLE #1 – ABRAHAM HAD LISTENING EARS AND OBEDIENT FEET.

Hebrews 11:8a, “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went even though he did not know where he was going.”

Genesis 12:1-4a, “The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.

I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you.

I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.

I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I       will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

So, Abram left, as the Lord had told him …”

  1. WHAT WOULD ABRAHAM HAVE TO GIVE UP TO OBEY THE ONLY LIVING AND TRUE GOD’S CALL?
  1. WHERE WOULD ABRAHAM HAVE TO GO?
  1. HOW DID ABRAHAM RESPOND TO GOD’S CALL?
  1. APPLICATION – Does God have our attention?
  1. ABRAHAM HAD LISTENING EARS AND OBEDIENT FEET. PRINCIPLE #2 – ABRAHAM HAD A PATIENT HEART. (v. 9)

Hebrews 11:9,

“By faith he made his home in the Promised Land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.”

  1. APPLICATION – A person who walks by faith in God’s promises will not be without problems.
  1. ABRAHAM HAD A PATIENT HEART.
  2. PRINCIPLE #3 – ABRAHAM HAD HIS EYES FOCUSED ON ETERNITY. (v. 10)

Hebrews 11:10,

“For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.”

The secret of Abraham’s patience was his hope in the ultimate Promised Land, heaven.

Abraham knew that his true citizenship was heavenly, not earthly; and he kept his attention on that heavenly goal.

  1. APPLICATION – Only the Christians who have their eyes focused on eternity will have the patience to continually obey and trust God when life becomes difficult and it seems that God has forgotten His promises and deserted them.
  1. APPLICATION – Does your eternal perspective help comfort you in your trials in this life?
  1. PRINCIPLE #1 – ABRAHAM HAD LISTENING EARS AND OBEDIENT FEET. (v. 8)
  1. PRINCIPLE #2 – ABRAHAM HAD A PATIENT HEART. (v. 9)
  1. PRINCIPLE #3 – ABRAHAM HAD HIS EYES FOCUSED ON ETERNITY. (v. 10)
  1. SPECIFIC APPLICATION – Abraham is a great example for us to follow.
  1. CONCLUSION

1. We have seen that “The Faith Of Abraham” was…

  a. Based upon revelation

  b. An obedient faith

  c. A trusting faith

  d. A growing faith

2. Why do we need this same kind of faith…?

Galatians 3:7

  1. Because “those who are of faith are the sons of Abraham” –

 Gal 3:9

  b. Because “those who are of faith are blessed with believing

      Abraham”

Indeed, those who have “The Faith Of Abraham” are truly the recipients of the promise made to Abraham:
