And Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me.
And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. I have come into the world as light,
so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.
John 12:44-46 ESV
Jesus, the Light of the World
In these verses, Jesus declares that he is the Light of the World. He says that whoever believes in him will not remain in darkness. This is a powerful statement, and it has many implications for our lives.
First, it means that Jesus is the source of all truth and goodness. He is the one who can lead us out of the darkness of sin and into the light of his love. When we believe in Jesus, we are turning our lives over to him and allowing him to guide us.
Second, it means that Jesus is the one who can give us hope. In a world that is often dark and full of despair, Jesus brings us hope for the future. He is the one who has overcome death and sin, and he promises to give us eternal life if we believe in him.
Third, it means that Jesus is the one who can give us peace. In a world that is often chaotic and stressful, Jesus brings us peace. He is the one who can calm our fears and give us strength to face whatever challenges we may face.
If you are feeling lost or alone in the darkness, I encourage you to turn to Jesus. He is the Light of the World, and he can lead you into the light of his love, hope, and peace.
Here are some questions for reflection:
- How has Jesus brought light into your life?
- What are some ways that you can share the light of Jesus with others?
- What are some things that you can do to keep your own heart and mind filled with the light of Jesus?
Here is a prayer you can pray:
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for being the light of the world. Thank you for dispelling the darkness of sin, death, and despair. I believe in you, and I ask you to forgive my sins and give me eternal life. I want to live my life for you, and I want to follow your example of love, compassion, and forgiveness.
Help me to spend time in your Word, to pray to you, and to worship you. I also want to serve others, following your example.
Thank you for being the light of my life. In your name, amen.
I hope this devotional has been helpful. May you experience the light of Jesus in your life today and every day.
